BIO
Héloïse is a London based artist, whose work focuses mostly on form. Héloïse first began her artistic practice while living in Amsterdam. After moving back to the UK, she went on to study the Sight-size technique at Sarum Studio, Atelier of Fine Art in Wilshire, and later at the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA). Héloïse’s work has been exhibited all over the UK and Europe. Héloïse has been commissioned to paint portraits of high profile figures such as Ciarán Hinds and Baroness Betty Boothroyd. Heloise was selected as a finalist for the BCA Awards 2022 and is a member of ArtCan. Throughout her practice Héloïse continues to use the female form as her main source of inspiration with the subject always being at the forefront of the artwork. Classically trained Héloïse maintains a delicate balance between breaking away from the conventional standards of figurative drawing, isolating the subject, to reflect on greater issues such as identity, intimacy and stillness and using her formal training to explore the organic texture of her subject matter. Héloïse's use of dry materials, such as graphite, charcoal, and pastel further emphasise the raw and organic state her work portrays.ARTIST’S STATEMENT “For me the human form has always been an intriguing subject to explore within my art practice. First inspired by artists such as Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud and Rembrandt I was drawn to that raw and unconventional way the human form was depicted. I am in a constant state of flux between wanting to create real, life like and cellular representations of skin and texture alongside creating that organic, innate, sometimes crude, natural and unapologetic state of what it truly means to be human. I am conscious not only as an artist and a woman but also because of my subject matter, exploring themes surrounding empowerment, self-awareness and identity as well as trying to redefine the way we see the female body. There is still so much to do and so many more conversations to be had. It will always be an integral part of my practice.”
